The album, which is 100% produced and written by Jon himself is quite the statement of talent and creativity. He manages to blend singing with rapping all over unbeatable productions. He brought out Logic, Castro and Blaque Keyz on 'When The Lions Came', with Logic dropping an expected unreal verse. The entire project spans 12 tracks, all very different and awesome in their own way. Jon Bellion is a new singer, rapper, producer and songwriter from Long Island. He is one of the most musically talented artists I have ever come across. He writes, produces and mixes all of the lyrics and beats to every one of his songs. It’s hard to pen a specific genre to his music because he really incorporates everything; mixing in hip-hop, indie, pop and alternative. He has some of the most unique beats along with a great singing voice and an incredible flow. Watching his musical process is absolutely incredible and posted below are some of his “The Making of:” videos for you to enjoy.
Jon attended Five Towns College for its performing arts program and really started to focus on his music after high school. Jon started producing music at the age of 14 and had no plans of doing anything else, but became “increasingly fed up with being asked for generic records.” So he decided to give singing and rapping a shot. He released his first mixtape, Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1 in 2011. It’s a project that very few have heard of and Jon gives it extremely little publicity (download link posted below).
2013 has been Jon’s year. He joined Logic’s Visionary Music Group and released Translations Through Speakers. Although this is technically his second mixtape, he considers it to be his freshman album. He received a lot of recognition from this album and has been on the rise ever since. He also wrote the hook to the massively popular song by Eminem and Rihanna, “The Monster” and received writing credit on Eminem’s album, Marshall Mathers LP 2.
A few days ago, Jon released his sophomore mixtape, The Separation. As expected, this album is fantastic. If you haven’t heard of Jon Bellion yet, you’re really missing out.
